The first session, in which two pieces were recorded in March 1963, was made by Mobley a few months after he had left Miles Davis\u0026#039; band. His tone here is still round and warm. When he then went back into the studio in February 1965 to record the remaining four tracks for the album, the tenor player played much more pointedly, bluesier and with more bite.
